"I must admit, I was quite skeptical after reading some reviews about buzzing, humming and constant changes in volume and brightness, but I've now had my Samsung 59" 550 mounted in our basement for 8 months, and I haven't experienced any of those issues. The screen is beautiful and crisp for watching baseball and football, movies and playing the occasional game. The 3D feature is nice; Avatar in 3D plays like it would it the theatre. The sound, even without a bar is above-average for a television! It's a great television even when compared to the premium models in the 60" range."
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Realistic color

"I've owned this T.V. for about a year now and all I can say is wow. I have read the other reviews posted here and can say I have NEVER had the screen 'pop' issue or the 'buzzing' issue. Like ALL plasma's the screen emits a slight hum if you are about 2-3ft away. Every person who has come over to watch a movie, football game, video game etc. has walked away very impressed. We get comments all the time about how beautiful the picture is. I have to say there is no substitute for a Plasma picture. When we bought this T.V. last year we were trying to choose between it and it's more expensive brothers. Turns out that the only real difference is the 'smart' feature of the others which we already have with our PS3/XBOX."

"I have had this tv for 6 months now and I have to say I absolutely love it. The picture is top notch and the 3d is theater like. The best tv I've owned and I had and still have some great tv's. Can't speak about the inboard speakers as I've never used them."

"Absolutely love our TV the picture is amazing. Sat and watched Avatar with some friends the other night and it was almost like being in the theatre. Still have to get some 3D glasses and can't understand why the charging stand for them is so expensive but that is the only con on the system."

"I am completely impressed by this TV -- the picture is absolutely gorgeous, and the sound from the built in speakers is pretty impressive as well (although the bass is a little lacking).
The 3D is stunning with my PS3 connected to the TV.
Compared to 3D on some other sets I've viewed, this set is amazing. There is no ghosting whatsoever, just beautiful, sharp 3D. I did have to buy the glasses separately, but for the great price I got on this TV, it wasn't much of a deal breaker.
I don't have a 3D capable receiver in my home theatre, but the TOS Link optical out on the back of the TV is a great feature, and saves the day since I can just output that to my receiver's TOS Link in and 5.1 channel sound is mine. I realise it is not DTS Master Audio, or DolbyTrue HD, but until I can afford a new receiver, I am more than happy with good old DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1. Also, the Anynet feature works great with my Samsung Blu-ray player, controlling both the TV and Blu-ray player.
I have not had any issues with buzzing or white pops like some people have. Although, I was having a slight issue with whiteness increases on occasion after I had fiddled around with the picture controls, but after doing a 'reset to default' in the picture control menu, I have not had any issues whatsoever. Since then I've been watching my movies on the default (and very close to reference level) movie mode, and things have been great.
My one con is that there is no dedicated 'Game Mode' TV setting in the main TV picture selection mode. You have to go into the system menu under, advanced, I believe, to turn the Game Mode, on and off. Why is this not one of the main picture selection presets? I hope this will be addressed in a future OS upgrade as the set allows for firmware upgrades through the internet.
I should mention that there is no web browser or any apps you can install on this TV, but that wasn't a problem for me since I already had a Samsung Blu-ray player that included that feature.
As I said in the title of this review, the picture on this TV is so razor sharp, it will make your eyes bleed. This thing is amazing -- highly recommended."

"I have had my 59" inch 3D Samsung 550 Series Plasma for about a week and let me tell you i love the picture on it , its so crisp you see every detail thats shown on HD TV , for gaming its amazing its so smooth , and i love how it hooks right up to my laptop so i can watch movies . "This TV is absolutely awesome! The features are endless it seems and the picture WOW! It doesn's matter how close or far you are away it is clear and crisp without seeming fuzzy. I love that I can sit on an angle to the tv and still have that clear picture. The 3D is like nothing I've seen in home before even on 2D movies I've seen many times converting them to 3D makes them new again!"

Beautiful picture, but a constant humming from the screen

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
"The TV displays colors that my 40" LCD could only dream of. The 3D works great and is easy to watch. The tools to help adjust the 3D image are a nice touch.
The downfall? the screen hums. The hum is drowned out if you turn up the volume but during quiet moments you can detect the humming. It can get annoying."

"This TV would be an excellent value except that 2 or 3 times while watching a movie the entire TV gets brighter and then it returns to normal. I hope it doesn't get any worse. Also you can hear it humming during the quiet parts of the movie."

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
"I choose this tv after much deliberation based on it's outstanding picture quality and features. I got it home, set it up, turn the power on and...... BBBBBBBBBBBUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!
An over-powering buzz that worsens as the picture brightens. So after buying it getting it home and setting it up I ended up with a dud. No worries I'll just return it for another and everything will be fine. Box it up, back to the store to exchange for another, get the new one home set it up, turn the power on and......

But all Plasma's Buzz! True. But are they so loud that the buzz overpowers the audio in all but the very loudest scenes?! Are they so loud that the buzz can easily be heard 40 ft from the screen? Type "samsung plasma" into Google and it will fill in "buzz" for you! Apparently the problem plagues the entire plasma 2011 line, every model, every size. Some people have been able to find quiet ones but others have been through 5 exchanges with all "buzzers"! I am not so tolerant and gave up after the second one buzzed, leaving me waiting to see if Samsung fixes them for 2012. The other problem that is common to 2011 Samsung plasmas is the "brightness pop", where the screen goes from dim to bright very abruptly in scenes. I was able to lessen the effect through settings but it was still there, slightly annoying but i could have lived with it."
