"All I have to say at this point is - WOW!!!
This is my second Samsung HDTV (in a row) having recently upgraded from a 46" LN46D630 LCD tv to my new PN60E6500. I was throughly impressed with the previous LCD I owned. So much, in fact, that upon researching my upgrade, Samsung was immediately a consideration.
I decided to go plasma this time due to extensive research into the value and benefit of owning plasma vs LCD. I tell you what - as SOON as I spent the first 20 minutes viewing BluRays on my new plasma, the picture quality was in a different league all together. There was a very obvious difference in screen uniformity, black levels and, subsequently, shadow details from my previous unit. For the first time in my life I can finally join (and understand) the conversations about Black Levels, Shadow Details and Uniformity!
I finally committed to buying another Samsung HDTV and, specifically, the PN60E6500 after endless professional/user reviews all arriving at the same conclusion - the best performing TV available on the market for under $1500. The "make it or break it" factor was the fact that Samsung TVs also have the best file support on the market. I am an avid Bluray junkie who likes to play movie files directly from the TV's media player. Conclusion after 2 months + of continuous testing: VERY Robust video processor. Just about every movie file I've thrown at my plasma has played flawlessly and in brilliant HD.
As a background, when I owned my LCD tv, I was also very active in playing these movie files through its media player. I found with the LN46D630, the video processor was somewhat lacking. Movies in and around the 5Mbps video bitrate range would sometimes freeze in the middle of playback rendering the remote and onboard tv controls responseless. I attributed this to the fact that the video processor had its limits. I have since run numerous trials on my PN60E6500 using similar movie files that had previous crashed on my LCD and they have run perfectly. I have also run numerous trials on video files with much higher bitrates (8Mbps - 15Mbps) and even these files have run flawlessly!!!
Every aspect of this plasma is simply best in class. The colours (as to be expected from Samsung) is just brilliant. High speed motion / action has never been so clear. The 3D feature is pretty cool (performance-wise, its technically very capable) and adds a breadth of dimension to 3D Bluray titles (although I'm not a big fan of 3D and would usually prefer a crisp 2D copy of most titles).
This tv also has a huge array of SmartTV apps / features (personally, I have yet to try any of these apps or functions).
Overall - Viewing ANY media, whether HD 1080p or even SD, is an absolute pleasure and a moving experience. 60" is quite the behemoth of a screen size so much so that I can even spend the night watching commercials and be quite happy!
